The Pool Garden
The Pool Garden is one of the most tranquil areas of the grounds and is the very heart of the gardens. At one time, a large Edwardian rose garden designed by Robert Schultz and surrounded by a pergola, it now contains some fine Magnolias and in particular a large Carpentaria californica beside the little shelter. Sitting here, you can look through the Dog Gates past the pleached limes and the Gladiator and down the allée of London Planes to the millenium obelisk.
If you sit on the other side, you can see across the pool to the urn beyond the Statue Walk. To the right is a French lead statue of Diana the Huntress. Notable in this garden are Actinidia kolomikta, Ceanothus arboreus "Topaz", Cercidiphyllum japonicum and rhododendrons.
